Welcome to Skyway Fishing Pier State Park

When the new Sunshine Skyway Bridge was built over Tampa Bay, connecting St. Petersburg with Sarasota, the old bridge was turned into the world's longest fishing pier.

Anglers love being able to park their cars within a few feet of their favorite fishing spot. The bridge is lighted at night, so anglers can see to rig a line and bait the hook, and get a good look at their catch. The light also attracts many species of fish after sundown.

Common catches include snook, tarpon, grouper, black sea bass, Spanish mackerel, king mackerel, cobia, sheepshead, red snapper, pompano and many more. Snacks, drinks, bait and fishing supplies are available for purchase.

Fishing at the Skyway Pier

The pier is located at the north and south sides of the mouth of Tampa Bay providing a saltwater fishing experience that you won’t soon forget. Some of the most popular species found while fishing at this pier include snook, tarpon, grouper, black sea bass, Spanish mackerel, king mackerel, cobia, sheepshead, red snapper and pompano.

Florida State Parks Annual Pass

Annual entrance passes can be purchased at all park ranger stations and museums. If you require immediate use of your pass, this is the best option. Passes can be purchased during regular business hours 365 days a year.

The Florida pompano, part of the jack family, is a species of marine fish with a compressed body, short snout and deeply forked tail. Pompano fish often have a color variation of blue, green and yellow on their dorsal areas and silver and yellow on their body and fins.

The black sea bass is one of the popular species of fish that can be found at Skyway Fishing Pier. They can be found in both inshore and offshore waters and spend most of their time close to the sea floor next to rocks, man-made reefs, jetties, piers and bridge pilings.
